Turkey Day Adventures

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is already past, and Christmas is just around the corner! This year has just flown by! Hopefully everyone had a fun and filling holiday! I know that I for one enjoyed having some time off of work. Poor Ryan though, working for FedEx means that he only got to have Thanksgiving day off and had to work the others, including Saturday. I was bummed that we didn’t get to have more time off together, but we’re grateful for his job so I really can’t complain too much. Out loud anyway…. :D

We started our Thanksgiving off by going shooting up Hobble Creek Canyon. Ryan got a new handgun like 2 weeks ago and wanted to try it out. I still prefer shooting the shotgun. He’ll throw the clay pigeons for me, and usually I’ll get about 18/20. Fun, right? He says that it makes him proud that I can shoot well. Some days I’ll hit more clays than he will, but I think that the ones he shoots count for more than mine. Here’s why. I’m completely and utterly incapable of throwing clays. Give me a spring loaded launcher, and I’ll struggle with the dumb spring but I can still make it work. Give me the handheld red launchers and I’m totally helpless. He’s tried and tried to teach me, but to no avail. Every so often I’ll try again to see if maybe something has changed, but that’s never the case. Instead I just get frustrated during the process of what probably looks like a very strange interpretive dance….or a seizure. Anyway, Ryan ends up having to throw for himself. Who does that?! He throws, drops the red thing, positions the shotgun, and shoots. And what’s sickening is that probably 85-90% of the time he hits it! I’ll admit, I’m jealous of his mad skills. I’d love to learn to do it, but without my interpretive dances, where would he get his amusement?? I couldn’t take that away from him of course. :)
Anyhoo, after shooting we went over to a friend's place for our delicious feast. One of the lovely ladies that I work with know that we didn't really have anywhere to go so she invited us to eat with her family. They were loud and boisterous, so I felt right at home! Haha. They kept apologizing for it, but I just assured them that it helped me feel more comfortable, as that is what I'm used to for holidays....and all the other days with my family. It's the best! We had a great time with them, and the food was oh so yummy. We definitely ate our fill! Of course, that meant that once we got home we both fell into turkey induced coma-naps. Love me some extra sleep! Besides, that nap had us well rested for our "Black Thursday" adventure we had that night.
Before this year, Ry has never been Black Friday Shopping. Probably a smart thing, but nevertheless I still think everyone should experience it at least once! Since he had to work the next morning, it worked out nicely that the sewing machine that we were going after was at Walmart for the 8pm sale. Surprisingly enough, we were in and out of there in 1hr and 44min! Having waited in lines for hours before, that was a speedy Black Friday trip. Ry however thought he might die of old age before we got out of there. If I would have been ok to walk away from the sewing machine, I would have gotten my rolling sewing machine bag and probably been out of there in an hour. However, I wanted my sewing machine! The problem was, they didn’t know where they put the sewing machines!! They lost them! The first stupid part was that they only ordered 6 for a Black Friday sale. Second mistake was not keeping track of them. There was a group of 6 of us who were the first ones waiting for the machines. They eventually found 2, but not the others. Other people came over to wait, but when they heard the other machines were MIA they couldn't tough it out and wait. Pansies. After we waited for them, I decided that "they are lost" wouldn't be good enough for us who had waited where they told us to, and waited for almost an hour after the “sales” started for them to keep looking for them. I’m stubborn, and if I want something, I go after it. And I don’t go down without a fight. BUT, I can say I’m very skilled at doing it professionally. After waiting for quite awhile, I asked a guy who was cutting open all of the pallets if he could get a supervisor for me. After waiting for 10min without anything, we decided that he probably wasn’t coming back. So I went and asked another associate if they could get me a manager. As we waited for someone to show up, the others expressed worry that no one would come. So I reassured them that I would ask every single worker until someone got us a manager. Eventually a manager did show up, and I explained the situation. I said that we had been told to wait, and they would bring the sewing machines. It wasn’t our fault that they lost the sewing machines, and it wasn’t right to advertise a product in their ad if they didn’t have it. I told him we wanted to know what could be done about this. Perhaps a rain check or something. So he went and talked to his manager to see if they could do anything. He returned, and said that the other machines had been found, but were back by the baby supplies and were long gone. He said that due to the circumstances, he was allowed to approve for the 4 of us who were still waiting to get a comparable sewing machine at the same price. The one in the ad had 20 stitches, the one that I got has 17. Whoop-de-doop! I’m sure that those 3 stitches won’t even be missed! He said that this deal was just for us 4, and not to tell anyone else about it. At the register, 3 of us were together to make it easier on the cashier. They had to page the manager that we had worked with to make sure we weren’t full of it, and then we were good to go! So, ask (nicely of course) and ye shall receive! The others made a big deal about it because they all said they wouldn’t have dared to ask. I guess sometimes my get-it-or-die-trying attitude pays off! So I got a Brother sewing machine and a rolling sewing bag for like $80! The bag apparently isn’t normally sold at Walmart, but it’s listed on Amazon for $84.99. And the sewing machine is normally $80 at Walmart. I love a good deal!! :D Now I can make some curtains for our home, which is coming together nicely! Once it’s all decorated, I’ll post some pictures. :)
Yay for good deals!!

And it begins...

Hello!! So I've been told before that I should start a blog, but I've put it off forever and ever saying that my life wasn't interesting enough to blog about. I'd always get people off my back about it saying that once I was married, I would start one. Well, now I'm married....so....no more excuses. A new era has begun! Haha.

Ryan and I have now been married for 5 weeks. So basically, we’re pros if anyone is looking for marital advice…. ;) I have to say, I absolutely love it! It is still strange to think that I have a husband, as that word has never been in my personal vocabulary before. Being married is an adjustment, but not as much as I thought it would.
Our wedding day was perfect. Everything fell smoothly into place and there were no scares, hiccups, etc. The temple was amazing, the reception beautiful, the food yummy, and family and friends were fantastic. Both of our families were able to make it out here to Utah, and that meant so much to us. They came in from Indiana, Texas and California, all arriving at different times. We didn’t get nearly as much time with all of them as we wanted to, but were grateful for all of the time that we did get.
We left for Vegas the following day for our honeymoon, and spent a good amount of that trip in crazy heavy rainstorms. I was happy that it all held out until after we had our wedding day, but since Ry had to drive in it I don’t think that happiness was shared to its full extent! We spent a few days down in Vegas staying at the Venetian Hotel. The suite we had was huge, beautiful, and also had a beautiful view. Some of the highlights were seeing all the fish at the Mandalay Bay Aquarium, eating yummy food from several different places, watching the fountains at the Bellagio, lounging by the pool, and my favorite, seeing Mystere by Cirque du Solei. So fun! The only downfall about the trip was all of the cigarette smoke, which my lungs did not like, and made their protestations heard. Once we got back I had a horrible cough and Ry was convinced I was dying. After talking to my mom and sister, I discovered that they were having similar symptoms. Turns out my 10 month old niece had Croup, and us ladies all picked up the virus. I’m finally only coughing like every other day, and it continues to improve. I’m sure that if I hadn’t gone in to the doctor the week we got back to get antibiotics (at Ryan’s urging, since I won’t go to the doctor unless I’m dying), I would probably be a long way off from recovery still. Ryan never picked it up from me, for which we are both grateful!

We are all but settled into our home, with just decorating left to do. We’ve got several things to hang on the walls and display on the bookshelf, and then we are officially done! Until one of us sees something that we feel we just have to have, and then the projects will continue. But that’s what keeps things interesting! J
Well that is long enough for my first post, so I’ll stop while I’m ahead! We’ll see how good I am about keeping this thing updated. Honestly, it probably won’t be a problem since I often get spare time at work. So get excited, you’ll get to hear all about the Chronicles of the Deuels on a regular basis!
